At Hillhead, we believe that proficiency in one or more foreign languages can seriously enhance career prospects. Therefore, all students are involved in the study of a language from S1 onwards.
Students learn how to use languages effectively for the purposes of practical communication, developing the necessary knowledge and skills in the languages, but also an enthusiasm for using and learning languages in the future. The 4 main strands of this curriculum area are:
· Listening
· Speaking
· Reading
· Writing

We are lucky at Hillhead to have a department which comprises three European languages (French, German, Spanish) and also three community languages (Urdu, Punjabi, Chinese). As such, pupils have the opportunity to learn much about different global cultures and citizenship.
