Hillhead High School - A Health Promoting School
A health promoting school is one in which all members of the school community work together to provide pupils with integrated and positive experiences and structures, which promote and protect their health. This includes both the formal and the informal curriculum in health, the creation of a safe and healthy school environment, the provision of appropriate health services and the involvement of the family and wider community in efforts to promote health.

Changing Winds
You're flying through the air it seems,
In dark brown clothes and paper wings,
And just for you the sunshine beams,
Oh, what good fortune one puff brings.
You're passing through winds of success,
With lots of friends,
And no more stress,
You hope and pray it never ends.
But then one day you start to slow,
Your debts grow high,
Your luck grows low,
You feel your spirit start to die.
And what a terrible thing you'd done,
You cannot even show your face,
Your father's precious, treasured son,
Is lying down in your place.
Your mouth contains a smell of smoke,
Pure, white pearls turn to yellow teeth,
You start to splutter, cough and choke,
Filling up with your endless grief.
Until one day your wings don't flap,
They will not even make a sound,
There is one empty massive gap,
Then the waiting solid ground.

Dean
Dean used to smoke, he thought it made him look cool,
He also dogged classes so he could smoke while at school.
One day the teacher saw him, told him it was unhealthy,
If you stop your smoking you'll become more wealthy.
But Dean just ignored him, he was the cool one right now,
"I'll show it's cool." He would later vow.
Weeks passed and he started to smell,
He eventually lost his girlfriend as well.
His life was slowly falling apart,
He always used to be so smart.
Then one day his Mum caught him too,
"Just 'cause your friends smoke, doesn't permit you."
His Mum was so disappointed in him,
She thought that his habit was awfully grim.
Now no-one likes him, he threw his life away,
He looks back on his old smoking days.
He wished that he had made the right choice,
He should have just listened when the teacher raised his voice.
