First Year Course - Technical (S1)

In the first year Technical course, pupils are guided through 4 units of work.

These units are Graphics, Woodwork, Metalwork and Plastics.
In Graphics, pupils learn how to develop drawn communication skills through simple freehand sketching and the use of 1-point perspective.

An example drawing is shown here.
<----------------
In woodwork, pupils are encouraged to learn about the design process by producing a portfolio. This is directly linked to the product manufactured, which in this case is a Tangram Puzzle.

A photo of the Tangram being made is shown here. ----------->
In metalwork, we again follow the design process to produce a portfolio, then manufacture a garden trowel out of sheet steel and flat bar.

A photo is shown here.
<-------------------
When working with plastics (and in particular, Acrylic) the pupils learn how to mark out, shape and bend the material to form a photo frame.
-------------------->

The process of 'finishing' the edges of Acrylic is used again in 3rd year Craft and Design.
