BBC News School Report

February, 2007

Hillhead High School has been taking part in the BBC News School Report for the second year in a row. Last year, the school was commended for their tremendous effort.

The project aims to give 11 to 14-year-olds around the UK the opportunity to get involved in news and broadcast it via the internet. Teachers and the BBC assist students to develop their journalistic skills and become roving School Reporters.

The pupils are working towards the official live broadcast on 13 March 2008 but have already completed a Practice News Day!

The picture on the right shows BBC journalist Sally McNair, our mentor, who is helping us to put Hillhead High School on the map!

March 13, 2008

The pupils are really looking forward to March 13 when they will, along with schools from around the UK, take part in the BBC News School Report News Day!

SCHOOL REPORTERS FILMED BY BBC CREW

Class 1D1 have completed a Bullyproof project developed by English teacher, Miss McGlone, as part of their First Year English work.

The pupils decided to use some of the ideas for the BBC News School Report and have been filmed in school! Their work will appear on television on March 13 - so watch out for Hillhead High School on the big day!

About online journalism:

We have chosen online journalism as our focus because we liked the idea of being able to edit and upload our stories very quickly. Also, the children felt it will become the 'news medium of the future'. The pupils have been learning about how news has to be clear, concise and correct. (The so-called three Cs' of journalism)!

FIRST UK SCHOOL TO MEET BROADCASTING DEADLINE!

We had a very successful  Practice News Day on December 13, 2007!

We turned the school library into a newsroom and we were the first UK school to meet our broadcasting deadline!

Got a story for us? If so, please e-mail it to Miss McKerley at:
