Hi everyone. The former pupils of the year which began in Hillhead Primary in 1949 and left 6th Form in 1962 have created an e-mail group which now has 42 members. Anyone from this year 'cohort', or any teachers from this era, wishing to be in contact with us just Google my name and 'WAVE Trust' to find my contact details. We had a first reunion in Glasgow in 2009, which was brilliant (photographs available) and are planning another on Friday 4th June 2010 - George Hosking

May I take this public opportunity to thank all the people who have wished me well on my retirement from Hillhead High School. I have enjoyed so many fantastic times here and have had the pleasure of working with so many wonderful pupils, parents, staff and members of Hughenden over the years.
I shall continue to be interested in the progress of the school and of the pupils, both past and present, with whom I have worked.
I send you my sincere thanks and best wishes for the future - working at Hillhead has been a pleasure.

I attended HHS between 1948 and 1950. I have fond memories of Dr Merry, and Joe Cunningham the physics teacher. I was in the 1st XV with Archie Neil, John McGregor Callum Chisholm and Alan Edga a great team!

I have very happy memories of HHS. It only seems like yesterday.......well maybe a few years ago! If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Well maybe I would have spent more time studying homework instead of Mr Dalrymple :-)
HHS made me who I am today and for that I am very grateful.

Fantastic trip apart from the bus breaking down enroute and on way home lol. mr dalrymple went with us so he had us down on the beach at 7am every day,and i won the tote for the first goalscorer in Brazil v Scotland game and i was hunting high and low on the coach looking for a yellow card with 15 written on it,won 90francs i believe.

Hi just like to say how much I miss Hillhead High. Everytime I had an essay to do for University I remembered just how much I hated doing English essays at 6th year. Now when a compare my work at school 2 university, it's like butter and knife. I'm greatful 2 my English teacher who helped me pass Higher English with a C. I'm also thankful 2 Mr Wilson who gave me support for Maths in 5th year and 6th, he helped me 2 get an A at the end of the day even though I failed in 5th year. I like 2 thank everyone who helped me in school and gave me encouragement during my 5 years at school. I still wouldn't forget about Discovering Glasgow and my trip to Alton Towers. I really miss Hillhead and also think about the good old days whenever I'm stressed from my University coursework but do find university an enjoying experience and freedom.

There are so many comments, I don't really know where to start.
Despite absolutely loving school, I didn't achieve very much - well, on the academic side anyway.
1978-1985 - awesome!!
25 of us sang with ABBA in the Apollo theatre, Glasgow (I have a dream-1978). Mrs McLellan was brilliant, aided magnificently by Mr Fulton on putting together a number of school musicals. I took part in 4 including Guys and Dolls, Finian's Rainbow, Brigadoon and Irene. The last of which I played an efeminate dress maker called Madame Lucy!!!
This was shortly after winning 2 Scottish Schools rugby Caps!! Mr Dalrymple went above and beyond the call of duty, in support and encouragement for me and I will never ever forget that.
I was so proud to be nominated School Captain and am probably to this day, the least academic Captain in the history of the school!!
I still see a number of friends and school mates at regular and irregular intervals and it always makes me very happy to lose myself in memories of Hillhead High School.
This is the first time I have ever been on the website, so I wanted to post a message.
Keep dreaming and best wishes to all

I'm very proud of the pupils I knew whilst working there - seeing you in the Seniors Ball and in the Eid & Diwali and in the Fairtrade photos - puts a smile on my face. :-) Mr McC.

Hi there,
I'm organising a Hillhead High School reunion for all those students that went here in the 80s. I went 1982-1988. I have already set up the group on facebook. Please look it up or email me if you want to attend or help me organise it. The date is Saturday 27 June 2009. Venue tbc but will be in the West End. I am in the process of contacting all the teachers from that time, I know some still teach at HHS. If you are a teacher please contact me. I was the "Prince" fanatic who wore purple instead of the navy blue uniform. Our Headmaster was Mr Craig. Teachers at that time were Mr Campbell (of course), Mr Fulton, Mr Dalrymple, Mr Evans, Miss Hamilton, Miss Molloy, Mrs Mclennan, Miss Spicer, Ms Anderson, Mr Hawkins, Mr McLaren, Mr McLure, Miss Barr, Miss Templeman, Mr Goodall, Mr Fraser, Miss Millar, Miss Small, Mr McKinlay, Miss Hutcheson, Mrs MacSween etc etc. Would be great to see you all again and the facebook group has got everyone buzzing and chatting about old times (20 years back!!!) Thank you so much in advance.

Hello Hillhead High,
Growing up in the west end I had a very close friend Neil McConnel, who lived on Sanda St, just off Clouston St (where I was born). We both attended the 96th Sea Scouts and Shakespeare Primary School. I went to North kelvinside Senior and Neil joined HH. He went on to University, doing I think biology. I last saw him in Glasgow late 1980's; he had been working for Hospital by Anniesland, married and lived in Alexandria. Anyone out got contact info, appreciate it. Ken -Juneau, Alaska.

I was at HHS first in Cecil Street and in Oakfield Avenue 1946 to 1950. I have worked in Scotland, South Africa and in Australia for the past 36 years. very interested to see this page although cannot identify any familiar names. Living in Sydney, I frequently pass Crown Street school, which I belive has some association with HHS.

H H S Ladies Dinner was held on Saturday 4 October '08 at the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel
It was attended by 75 former Ladies of Hillhead
It was good to have your head girl with us along with last year's head girl and deputy head
Also we had two young ladies from previous years
A report and photos will be added shortly on the Former Pupils page
Our guest speaker was ex Hillhead boy Iain Guthrie Lockhart who proposed the toast to the school and the reply was by his wife Mrs June Lockhart, altho' she went to school in Aberdeen she joined H H S Club on coming to Glasgow to train as a teacher .She played hockey, tennis & squash. A very interesting and funny report was given by both guests
The attention and meal we had was wonderful and a great time was had by all
Next dinner will be Saturday 2 October 2010....please think about joining us 'Ladies' , bringing new blood and ideas
Thank you

Just back for a visit since I'm supposed to be revising
Sitting my finals starting next week - computer science at Strathclyde! (can't wait 'til its over but then I'll miss it like this place).
So I hear you guys have a recording studio in the music department now? sick! i would have loved that.
I'll need to come for a visit some time after I graduate to find some former teachers of mine to brag to! (some will be proud, others suprised!!!)
Anyone who was in 2E-6E (we were the worst behaved class) may remember me, I think I left in 2004.
Good to see a few familiar names - too many people have disappeared - Brian Noble, Robert McEwan to name a couple.
I have some sad news - Unfortunately my good friend Jamal Ahmed passed away late last year - a tradegy for a 21 year old with his whole life ahead of him. His friends and family sorely miss him.
Wow, I've wrote alot. Back to the red bull and revision.

My school Kelvinhaugh primary went to Hillhead high for a six week visit. My whole class enjoyed it very much. When we first saw the size of the building it looked scary compared to our small school, but after a couple of weeks we all got used to it and it didnt seem so scary after all. Can't wait to start high school after the summer holidays.

I always asked Mr.I Campbell - How are you Sir? Mr. I Campbell's answer (always be) : "Not bad for my age".
Now ,again l'm asking: "How are you Sir?"
I really miss my history class, and how Mr.I Campbell got angry when l wasn't listening to "How Britain became more democratic or the Rise of Hitler". Now, l wish l was in that class listening to Mr.I Campbell, and him getting angry at the pupils or even me :)

Take care everybody :)

Hello everyone.

I was studying for a uni exam (3rd year, strathclyde) looking at wikipedia and i ended up on hillhead's page, then on to this website. great idea.

thinking back, school days are really some of the best of your life, so all you youngsters reading this try and enjoy it while it lasts.

I hope all the old staff i remember are doing ok, i used to be a right trouble maker, and looking back im thankfull that they were all patient with me as im all grown up now (just turned 21) and in a years time i will be sitting my finals (computer science).

ah well i should get back to my exam revision, enough procrastinating (wasting time putting off what needs to be done!)

Its interesting to see a pic of the school. It is as I left it in 1964 to go to Africa (apart from the enclosed corridors). When did the blazer disappear from the uniforms? Is discipline as strong as it was when I was there? In November 1964 in one day I received 2 belts from Josh 8.5 the maths teacher, 2 from "Tommy" Steele the French teacher and 2 from Mr Campbell in History class. Rather a painful day!!!!! Brilliant to visit the website. God bless.

08 December 2005 00:00:00
I posted a comment earlier about a couple of beltings I got back in '64 but I remember that I missed one out. That was one I received from "The Sheriff" in History class making a grand total of 7 "o' the best" in one day!! Ouch!

Just a wee note to say the "Hillhead Hunks" 2006 calendar will be released on Tursday 8th December. Quantitys are low,so reserve one by speaking to Hannah Hamilton or Isa Benedetti and you will be added to the list and are guarenteed to recieve one.All money raised will go directly to the charity FULCRUM where it will be used to fund the construction of primary schools, and supply thier materials, in the poorer regions of India. Great cause, remember and bring in the money!

Mr. H.G. "Bert" Radford a Hillhead alunmi from eons ago was last weekend elected the new President of Rugby Alberta the provincial association in Canada. There are 29 clubs in Alberta each fielding 5 or 6 teams so this is a large job of which we are confident he will do well.

I loved Hillhead High School.
I would like to say hello to Shannon, Katie, Claire, Jack, and Kate, Hannah, Elizabeth and some teachers including Miss Campell (Home Economics):If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have became a good sewer to have a job in Glasgow where I sew curtains. And also I would like to say sorry to Mr Baker (English): for failing English and one more apology to Miss Ross (Music) for failing music too.

a 5th Year

In reply to the Primary 7 kid, M, the school is great !
In 1st and 2nd Year, you go round all the classes, to see which ones you like the best. Then, in 3rd Year, you pick 7 or 8 (I think it was 8!) subjects that you like the best, and you study them for two years.
Hope this helps. If you need more information, just e-mail the website.
Just to add a bit to the above. In S1 and S2 you get a broad education. At the end of S2, you make a choice of subjects based on ability as well as thinking about your future career. S3 and S4 is spent working towards Standard Grade Exams and Folios. How well you do at this stage will determine what you can enter in S5 and S6. From Webmaster.

Hello everyone!

I would like to say couple of things about Hillhead High school! I'm one of Hillhead High school's Star Pupil. Also a Prefect : ) I think that Hillhead High School is very Good Place to be, the teachers are kind, friendly the pupils are nice too. No matter what the News papers say about Hillhead High School, we all the Staff Teachers and the Pupils know that Hillhead High is very Good School as we can see in the web-site, our achievements, and success. So when the news papers produce article about Hillhead High School l think they should research before writing !
Many Thanks.

Hello,
Just to say this years show will ROCK!!!
Plus I can't wait to choose my subjects but why do we have to pick a science? I want to be a lawyer and why will I need to know the Periodic Table if I'm a lawyer?
You will need to have a breadth of knowledge to be a lawyer - not just knowledge of law. Prove you are able by doing the best you can in each subject on your timetable. No-one can fault you for that. To start with, what is the symbol on the periodic chart for Iron? :-) WM

Just to say it's been ten years since I left Hillhead. At the time i didn't look back fondly as I had to deal with some pretty bad bullying at school. But looking back all the staff did what they had to do and it was hard for them. If you are on the recieving end of any kind of bullying please please tell someone. DO NOT suffer like I did. thanks

I am thrilled to see HHS has its own website and is still alive and kicking. I was at Hillhead from 1972 - 76 and they were some of the best years of my life. I have wonderful memories of HHS, students and teachers. I now live in Toronto, Canada but happen to be here in Glasgow on holiday.

Hi to all former students at HHS. To the current pupils, I hope you love the school as much as I did!!

Well hello there. Just thought that as I was Head Girl for the whole of last year I should perhaps write at least one comment in this guestbook. Most of you won't even know who I am, unless you were at prize giving and saw me try to make a speech at the end. Anyway, I've just finished my time at Hillhead and will miss all the people (staff and pupils) that I have met along the way. Good luck to all the 6th years who have left and to all the 4th and 5th years we have left behind... have a nice life! :P R xx

I was at Hillhead from 1948 to 1950, having been imported from the wilds of Banffshire. It really was a culture shock!
Dr Merry, the Headmaster asked Archie Neil to be my 'buddy' for the first few days. Memories crowd in of 'Speedy' Easson, 'Pinty' McNeil, Miss Calder and, in the sports Department, Mr McMaster and Jim Cessford who forced me to play rugby! Best wishes to all my former colleagues

Hillhead with their very own website?? My..times have moved on! Well nice to see it looking good all the same..although can't say much about the new school (yes, I am one of ye faithful open corridor fans). Anyhoo, hardly anyone will know who I am, but I left in 99 when I was in 4th Year...and I finished my last exam of my university degree just yesterday! I do pop in probably once a year, and am still sad that three particularly great teachers of mine, who gave me a lot of support and encouragement I so very much needed at the time, have passed away since I left. So, although I've only come upon this site purely by accident, I'd love to use it to pay tribute to the great Mr Gallagher (everyone's favourite football crazy cuddly maths teacher), the timeless Mr Booth whom so many decades of students will remember and appreciate, and of course the lovely Mrs Howie who always saw the best in me. Anyway, its almost 4am and I have an interview tomorrow, so ni' night and best wishes to y'all!...Aliah

I was thrilled to find my old alma mater on the web. I attended Cecil Street during the war years (2nd, i.e.) and remember being thrilled at being able to wear a skirt and blouse instead of a tunic (yes we did have to wear a uniform). I also remember being a member of MacDonald House. I immigrated to Canada in 1952. Would love to get in touch with anyone who was at Hillhead High between 1939 and 1949.

Buenos Dias,
Asim Ali 1998-2004. You know looking back on my 5 years (1 at woodside) at Hillhead, it's hard not to smile. I moved to Chester, came back, then got a job. Went to Indonesia with the red cross after the tusnami for a month. I'm scheduled to go to Ethiopia in about 2 months time, then it should go back to normal when I start A.I. engineering at University. It's a shame i've already lost touch with most the people from school...

I was a pupil at HHS from 1954-57 which was when my family moved from Glasgow to Canada. I visited HHS in 1997 and a group of students informed me that the school had NEVER had a uniform. I'm sure my old headmaster, James Patterson would have been outraged to hear that.... I would really love to get in touch with my best friend Mamie Young, also Pat Connelly, Joyce McArthur and Marion Morrison. I have been married now for 38 years and my surname is now McCurrie. I am very proud to have been a student at HHS and will always remember it fondly. By the way, glad to hear that the new uniforms are now mandatory!!!!

It's amazin'. I take R.E. lessons, as I'm a Christain youth worker and I also assist in other classes. It's all fun. I have a different respect for teachers now 'cause I know how hard it is for y'all! I work with kids all over Warrington, from rich kids to kids from broken families, they are amazing! Anyways, hope your all doin' ok, hope to see some of you soon when I'm home for summer! Oh and I still have my accent! Hi everbody! How're the exams goin?:| Hopefully you'll all do brilliantly! Have the Whitey's got any gigs goin yet? :P I miss being one of their groupies!

Just wanted to say hi and to ask when the school show is? I'm getting numerous dates thrown at me from some of you guys and am now terribly confused (doesn't take much to confuse me though, haha:P) I'd love to come along...the Christmas concert was really great and I'd love to see everyone again!

Word of advice: you don't actually realise how much you'll miss school til you leave it :P I'm having the time of my life at uni right now - my english course is fabby and really inspirational - but sometimes you need Mr Flanagan about to give you a gentle nudge when essays are due in:P Otherwise (if you're like me) you end up leaving it to the last minute! It's still brilliant though - our lecturers are mad!

Anyway, best be offskies, but big hello's to everyone in music dept (keep Miss Ross smiling!:P), english dept (is Mr Mclaren back yet?), and to Mr I.C and C.C over in history too, cuz I miss their merry war of wit on a Monday afternoon.

Ciao!

I was a former pupil, I started in 1992 and left in 1998. I have just recently met alot of the people from my class and it got me thinking about school and how it was a great time, apart from all the work, but if it was not for that I suppose I wouldn't be where I am today. I am currently studying again but this time it's to be a nurse so just beware if you come into accident and emergency that you will have a former Hillhead High student working on you!!!!!!!!!!!

I was bullied into this by someone who shall remain nameless, until the end of this message!

Hi to everyone that was in 2E-6E between 1999 and 2004 (I think that's the right years), this is Evander N and I would just like to say hello to everyone in general and also a big thanks to all the teachers who didn't give up on me and got me through and helped me get the grades I needed. I'm sure the Chemistry department will be so happy to know that I am now in the top 3rd of chemistry in the 1st year Bioscience section, who would have thought it, me being good at chemistry!

After making a mess of 5th year, I have managed to get the grades on attempt 2 in 6th year to get into Strathclyde University and now I am studying Forensic Biology or "How to commit crimes and not get caught 101!" So far it has been fun, can't wait 'til I get to use all the cool devices you see in CSI, like a device if mis-used you shoot yourself with a few thousand volts, neat eh!

So Happy New Year to everyone and good luck to anyone who reads this and if anyone want to contact me you can do so at trent_downward@hotmail.com

P.S ~ To the person I saw on the subway on the 28th December at a few minutes after 1pm from Hillhead to Buchanan Street, I am sorry I couldn't stop and talk to you, even thought I wanted to, sorry!

P.P.S ~ That Shayan fellow was the person who bullied me into this :P

It's not often that I write to my own school, but I thought I would on account of tonight's School Concert. I just wanted to say well done to each and every pupil who took time to practice, and had the courage to take part. It was a fantastic treat, which I'm glad I was able to experience! Well done, and keep up the good work! A.Teacher. (not telling which one!)

Hi, Hillhead High! I think you are all fine and doing a great job! Tried to log on to your Chinese Dept! Not successful!
I have a wonderful Chinese adopted granddaughter and about to have a second!
Can you help me get to your Chinese Department? Would really appreciate!
Aileen
Certainly! please aim your browser at www.hillheadhighchinese.ik.org or go to our Web Links and you'll find the Chinese Dept. under the School Departments sub-section, and hopefully that will do the trick! You will not be disappointed. WM

It's been a while since I checked back...and it's good to see that a few auldies like me remember our days at Oakfield Ave. Yes, I remember the Kasper twins. If I remember correctly, they played second row when I traded fullback with David Nairn in the 1st yr A team. I do remember quite clearly one of the twins nailing Mr Goldie with a crunching tackle from behind that brought his face into intimate contact with the cold mud of Garscadden one February afternoon. Also, I remeber most, if not all, of the Allsopps...Ollie (Jeremy) was in my class.

True, but we have few people who have spare time to moderate forums. Your idea may soon be used in some schools however. WM

09 September 2004 00:00:00
I was just wondering if you had ever considered setting up a forum? It would be pretty good. There are plenty of free ones out there to set up.
This is a good idea, in theory, however such a forum may be open to abuse by those not altogether interested in school related matters. So, in short, no. WM :-l

Hi, I think the school should have a disco because i,ve been to the school for 2 years and there has only been 2 discos and thats quite bad because cleveden and other schools have one for valentines day, easter, and all events which people celebrate. Discos are good for schools because everyone gets along and has a good time. A 2nd year.

Hey Hillhead,
"bet everyone's glad school has finished for the summer!
every one will be glad they are another year closer to leaving!" anyway i was reading the comments and everyone keeps saying they will beat us at sports, but "were simply the best, were better than all the rest, were better than anyone"
hillhead are the best.......

Today was my final day at Hillhead High School. It's been a priviledge studying here for the last six years and I'll be up to visit mucho! The teachers have all been amazing over the last years and provided me with the encouragement and guidance which has moulded me into who I am today.

So anyways, I just wanted to say thank you to the school, the teachers and all my other leaving 6th years who have made this period of my life so enjoyable and fun! :)

See everyone soon - keep in touch y'all!! (And to practise my fading Spanish) Buen vacaciones!!!

Hi everyone! Captain Tez is right - it's the end of an era for all us in the senior school that are leaving. Where have the past 6 years gone?! although we seem desperate to get out now, we will miss ya all:P Cheesy, but true!

I was so surprised when T told me that Catherine had posted here! How are ya doll? If you come back here any time soon can you post your MSN address (if you have one?) Could catch up on the gossip!

And in reply to what the 2nd year girls said, I think they should get another disco too. The wee school don't get enough discos, and the ones we had when we were in first and second year were such a buzz, am I right? Don't think anyone will ever forget Matthew G raving his way down the stairs with his yello glo stick:P

Hi everybody,I was just wondering how come the school doesn't let you know the school's website cos i wanted to check it out ages ago!!! I think the school should put up notices to make you aware of the school website. I don't know how but i found a newsletter from June 2003 (volume 1,issue 4) last week. I knew the school had a website but i didnt know the website address.....i think the school should organise something to do on lunchtimes since ur sometimes bored for like half and hour so not doing much :( C ya later.....
>>>The school's URL is put on every Newsletter. Perhaps putting a poster up in the school would be nice, but we're not into blowing our own trumpet! As for lunch time, most staff take time to eat & relax. What kind of things do you have in mind ???? WM

Hello all, I attended Hillhead High some time in the 1940's, not sure exactly when. I was born on Dumbarton Road in Yoker July 1936, and left with my mother to reunite with my father in New York. I now live in Texarkana Texas.
Would love to here from someone from that period, the only name that still runs around in my head is Alistair Campbell. I have a vague memory of a Bamford, but am not sure if that name was associated with the school, or from some place we had been evacuated to. Hope to hear from some of you.

Could you please tell Terri and Kyle that Mr Smith, the 'old' librarian, did NOT have a moustache. Tez and Kyle obviously have come over with a bout of the crazzies and don't know what they're talking about. Mr Smith was as clean shaven as... a clean shaven person. Mr Thorburn did have a moustache but shaved it off for charity. Is this right?

Where was the head shaving this year? Remember last year at the MacMillan Cancer Relief, Mr. McC and Mr. M both got a nice colourful mohawk? I feel ripped-off that we didn't have it this year! Still, it was all in aid of charity... but next time, Mr. O'Neill and Mr. Curran should get a mohawk! It's unfair that the other two technical teachers should have all the fun! :P

Random thoughts from a 2nd yearer...

I have just discovered this web site and on reading the comments I have to agree with James Breakey's comment of a few months back about school uniforms. I can't believe that the uniform is not mandatory. In my day, way back in 1953 - can't believe it is that long ago - we had to wear uniforms complete with brown shoes and of course either a hat or beret in navy blue. If you were caught coming to school without your beret by the prefects standing at the gate checking everyone you were given some kind of punishment from lines to copying Shakespeare texts. I am now living in Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada so I haven't kept up with the school for some time.

>>>Our pupils probably don't know how good they've got it. They are, however, expected to wear uniform each and every day - so this is not different from your day. It would be interesting to see some of them in berets however !WM

I have just spent my first week ay hillhead and have found it very enjoyable and a great school. i think that it is great that the school has introduced a uniform. i have always supported school uniform but have realised what a benifit it actually was to me. as being a 'new girl' it helped me fit in a lot easier. One complaint i have about the school is the lack of a 6th year common room. i have found i have had many free periods and have nowhere to go. i was surprised that a school of your size did not have one. especially as the building has had so much work done. otherwise, great school! *

>>>thanks Lib, but remember it's your school now, and so why not pass on your thoughts straight to your year head. Unfortunately space can be tight, but that doesn't mean we have to accept only one 'solution'. Webmaster

Hi Hillhead community, I was surfing the net, when the idea of searching for my old school came to my mind, even though I was only for the seventh grade I remember pretty good experiences from it, specially for all the people that helped me to become a member in the school, I was a Mexican boy in a country pretty far away from mine, and I was accepted in quite good. Now a days I am living in Mexico and I am finishing the Industrial Engineer career and I am working also at a Bank...well I hope to hear from someone soon..

Just like to say what a good job you've done with the site. I'm a first year myself and after a shaky start with a few problems, I'm really beginning to enjoy studying at Hillhead (especially in music and PE) and also beginning to enjoy the opportunities that it offers. 2 complaints though, one about the school and the other about the website.
1. Please, please, please open the lift to all!
2. The website needs some shading :)

>>>>>>>Thanks for your comments. Pleased to hear that you've found enjoyment in school. To answer your complaints.... 1. The lifts are for deliveries and people who have difficulty using stairs. With 1000 pupils in the school it would be folly to allow 'access for all'. 2. More shading ? I suppose you mean tonal scale? Will see what can be done! Webmaster

Really surprised to see the comments about school uniforms. Does this mean that uniforms are optional now at Hillhead ? As an ancient "Old Boy" {class of 1947} I am disappointed if this is indeed the case. Here in Vancouver ,Canada, of course the private schools wear uniforms but the public schools are now pushing for uniforms also. I guess that I am out of touch but can't help feeling that the uniform fostered the School Spirit.

In response to Cheryl, i think it is you who is placing people in groups. By presuming that im referring to one group of people who happen to dress a certain way, it is you who is guilty of catagorizing people. Of course, there are people of all dress and 'groups' that cause trouble, and that is who i, and the man in the article are referring to. A Ned is a non educated delinquent, and you cant tell one of these by how they dress, its by the way they act. I wasnt referring to any 'group' in particular, and if you thought i was then i apologise. Surely you agree that something should be done about those who bring down the school?

As seemingly one of the older contributers to this page, I'm delighted to see that the school is still held in such high esteem by its pupils. I have very happy memories of my days in both Cecil St. and Oakfield Avenue with Mr. Stewart and Mr. Paterson as respective heads. " Here's tae us, Wha's like us......"

Fantastic site so far from what i ve seen and great to see so many names from the past either in here or on friends reunited site.

Have just come back from 7 years in Hong Kong which was great and finding Scottish weather exactly what I remembered it to be like. Difficult to explain to my sons who had never seen snow.

Would like to hear from anyone who remembers me Primary through to leaving Secondary in 1977.

I would like to tell everyone that there was an article in a paper about this school, and basically this man who lives on Southpark Avenue thinks this school is a dump, and is basing his opinions about the whole school on a couple of Neds who ruin things for the rest of us by setting off Fireworks and vandalising local property. We all know that the majority of people in this school are well behaved, decent youngsters and it is very unfair to be judged on the behaviour of others (I wont mention any names). It's about time that people started to recognize the good things about the school because there are hundreds. Come on! Lets be proud of our school!

I don't know if anyone would remember me. I was there from 1943 until 1948 when we left for Canada. I remember Helen Dunn, Moira Walker, Iris Button. Hannah ?, Isabel? and after that I am lost. I am astounded that you have changed the school motto to the plural. I attended Cecil St. from the late 40's on and then the High School. Many memories. I have a copy of the Hillhead High School Club Book published in 1952. (Alistair Campbell, who was one of my Masters at Jordanhill. ) James Paterson was headmaster then. Do you still have Hughenden and Garscadden? Do you still teach Classics? I found that Oakfield Ave is being refurbished, but could not find out about Cecil St. Where can I find what is happening? I took my daughter back to Oakville Ave. in the 80's and you were playing baseball. The bats and gloves were lying under the War Memorial! Do the girls still play field hockey? Will the War Memorial have an honoured place in the refurbished building? Hope I get some answers. Aileen Rennie arennie@sympatico.ca

Hiya, I'm still at the school just now but wanted to say that this great new building is not all that great. The old open corridors were great, yeh you got wet but hey that was what our old school was like, full of character !!! Now all we have to rely on is the old teachers, although I have to say when I leave next year I will realy miss my guidance teacher as he is great. Yip its the great Mr C Campbell, he is so helpful and would do anything he could to help, he's great. Anyway I think its great that some people keep in touch with their school years after they left. I know I will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps it is a mid life crisis. Maybe 12000 miles distance or even 26 years absence but I am getting increasingly nostalgic from here in New Zealand about everything from those bygone days. Memories seem as fresh and even more rose tinted now as they were back then. Out of interest and surprise perhaps the most useful subjects have turned out to be Geography and Latin yes. So thanks to those patient souls Fulton, Reid, Gaul and Laidlaw. If anyone who remembers me is out in NZ, clean green and getting better at rugby this season I think let me know.

The site is excellent and spurred me on to try contacting some oldies using both here and friendsreunited. Have been waiting patiently for signs of life from previous classmates but alas nobody out there seems to be from my year. I seem to remember some names that are listed but find the old grey matter failing me. Having spent my entire primary education and 3 years of senior I am keen to hear from old mates, I moved away during 3rd year to live in Perthshire. Does anyone remember Roderick Moir, Scott Livingstone, Eric Meiklejohn, Jonathan Watson, Kenny Blue, Alan Green, David Workman, George Bramma, George Gallagher. I only remember 1 or 2 girls... the twins Christine and Evelyn McMeakin and Yvonne somebody. If any of you are out there, drop us a line even if it's only to say you're still alive.

As an old boy of some 44 years standing it is fascinating to be able to log on to your new web site and catch up on current activities at the school from here in Melbourne. It brings back many fond memories to read the contributions from former pupils around my vintage.
